Insults & Slang

Duck: Calling one a duck or any other fowl that is smaller in size, or maybe clumsy and flightless, is an insult. Goose, lark, pigeon, magpie, ostrich and sparrow are common insults. Most of these are bandied about with good nature. Ravens are the exception, as they are so clever that comes out to be a compliment.

Pillow: Useless person, only good for lending their feathers for pillows used by mortals.

Nithling: A person with no honor, no way to hold the honor: found wanting. Someone so incompetent at defending himself/herself and the holdings they possess that it compels someone to fight to defend it or be in a position to lose it all. It's a real ancient insult and are real fighting words. To refuse the fight after this insult is to give up everything you possess including accrued power and boons.

Holmgang: A grudge match for a dishonorable action against a third party, usually someone close you.
